Bridges y Puentes is a show about migration and the search for home, using a multiplicity of languages – spoken, sung, played, and danced. It is a promenade performance set in a car park or other transient space. The audience is invited to come on a journey; to step inside many different pairs of shoes as they witness a performance that evolves from, then disappears into, thin air. It has been performed in many different sites and cities, from Mulhouse in 2011 to Dover in 2017.

In 2014, Bridges became far more than a show, evolving into an extensive project engaging migrant communities in the Kent area – supported by Arts Council England, Heritage Lottery, Kent County Council and numerous other partners, who have continued to support its re-development from 2015 to 2017.

A brand-new incarnation of Bridges y Puentes was presented in autumn 2017 in three different regions, in collaboration with a number of partners: at Hull Freedom Festival, as part of the City of Culture celebrations; in East London, in collaboration with Theatre Royal Stratford East; and in Dover/Folkstone, a self-produced show, but working with the support of numerous Kent-based arts organisations. An extensive outreach and community engagement programme linked to the show brought workshops, participatory events, and community celebration parties to all three regions.

Interviews with migrants in every place that the show has been presented have informed the development of the show, and form an integral part of the soundscape and imagery, which fuses together a beautiful mix of live and recorded music from all corners of the world. The new version of the show builds on previous texts, creating a rich kaleidoscope of words, images and sounds from a multitude of sources.
